Mountain Misbehavior

WESTERN MOUNTAINS — Following are summaries of some of the local law enforcement agencies’ and emergency services’ activities last week.

Rangeley Police Department

At the Rangeley Police Department, Officer Austin was assigned to the Main Street area to stop and educate operators of vehicles who were not stopping for pedestrians in the crosswalks. Twelve warnings were issued, said Police Chief Dennis Leahy.

On Saturday July 17 Officer Wood was called to a domestic dispute in Oquossoc, when he arrived one of the parties had left the scene to go home to Massachusetts.

On July 23 Officer Wood issued a summons to a Rangeley resident for criminal trespass for an incident that occurred on the Loon Lake Road. Officer Wood also was called to the town park for illegal parking in the boat launch area, the illegal vehicles were prohibiting vehicles with boat trailers from accessing the launch. Three parking tickets were issued.

During this reporting period, Rangeley Police Officers on their Park and Walk conducted 31 building checks around town. They found one building not locked and police secured the building.

The Rangeley Police Officers stopped eight vehicles for various violations including speeding, inspection and registration violations and violation of a conditional license, said Chief Leahy. Of these vehicles stopped five received warnings and three received tickets.

Franklin County Sheriff’s Department

At the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, dispatchers there sent deputies to several locations throughout the county.

On July 16 deputies responded to an animal complaint on the Wilton Road in Farmington, investigated a welfare check on the Pond Road in Strong, issued a summons on Route 2 in New Sharon, responded with a K9 unit on the Wilton Road in Farmington, investigated an electrical fire on Main Street in Kingfield and a motor vehicle complaint on Route 27 in Eustis.

On July 17 deputies responded to a call of terrorizing and threatening on the Horseshoe Pond Road in Chesterville, investigated an accident on Court Street in Farmington, responded to a possible mental subject on the Toothaker Pond Road in Phillips, investigated a call of a fraud on the Norton Hill Road in Strong, a burglary on High Street in New Vineyard and a call of terrorizing and threatening on the McGrath Road in Wilton.

On July 18 deputies removed a subject on the Clover Mill Road in Farmington, investigated a car/moose accident on Route 4 in Madrid, responded to a vehicle on fire on the Earl Road in Farmington, a complaint of threatening on the Weld Road in Wilton, a burglary on Main Street in Jay and a motor vehicle complaint on Route 145 in Freeman Township.

On July 19 deputies investigated a car/moose accident on Route 17 in Letter E Township, responded to a 911 hang-up on the Rangeley Road in Madrid, responded with a K9 unit to Route 27 in Coburn Gore and investigated an accident on Main Street in Stratton.

On July 20 deputies responded to a call of a smoke detector going off on the West Kingfield Road in Kingfield, a loud party on the Temple Road in Farmington, the theft of a ATV on the Reeds Mill Road in Phillips, investigated a car accident on Federal Row in Industry, a car rollover on the Weld Road in Phillips, an alarm going off on Medeiros Lane in Sandy River Plantation, a complaint of harassment on Broadway in Farmington, a complaint of loud music on BJs Lane in Jay, a theft on the Wilton Road in Farmington and a theft on Depot Street in Wilton.

On July 21 deputies were sent to the Farmington Falls Road in Farmington where it was reported there was a possible OUI, deputies made a warrant arrest on the Lambert Hill Road in Strong, responded to a death on Middle Street in Farmington, a theft on the Old Dead River Road in Eustis, a burglary on Middle Street in Farmington, transported a prisoner to Franklin Health Commons in Farmington and were requested to do a reconstruction on the Weld Road in Phillips.
