Golf Classic nets impressive returns
      FARMINGTON — More than $21,000 was raised at the annual Healthcare Golf Classic held July 18 and 19 at the Sugarloaf Golf Club. Twenty-two teams from throughout New England took part in the Sunday and Monday tournaments.

Seavey wins championship
      CARRABASSETT VALLEY -– After a runner-up finish in last year’s tournament, Jeff Seavey of the Samoset Resort won his first State of Maine Championship at the Sugarloaf Golf Club today after sinking a putt for par on the second playoff hole with Shawn Warren of Falmouth Country Club.

CVOA holds summer shooting events for kids
      The Carrabassett Valley Outdoor Association has been holding outdoor target shooting events for the Stratton Summer Program. The program is based out of Stratton, with kids coming from other towns including Carrabassett, Kingfield, Rangeley and several other communities to attend camp for about eight weeks during summer vacation.

Mountain bike club meets July 31
      CARRABASSETT — Mountain bike enthusiasts from the Carrabassett region have joined together to form a mountain bike club, which is now a chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association. NEMBA is a non profit organization with 19 chapters throughout New England that is bringing riders of all abilities together to share in the fun of mountain biking.

Mushroom walk-and-talk
      RANGELEY — Amateur mycologist Michaeline Mulvey will present a walk and talk on “Mushrooming” at the Wilhelm Reich Museum, Sunday, Aug, 1, from 2 to 4 p.m. This workshop is intended for all ages. Mulvey is a member of the Maine Mycological Association from Brunswick and has been a presenter for a number of years.

Moosehead trip a success
      CARRABASSETT — A somber stroll through the site of the B52 bomber crash, a jaw-dropping hike up Mt. Kineo, a rugged bike ride down the Greenville to Shirley rail trail, a gentle paddle down the Moose River to Moosehead Lake —CVOA crammed it all into its “Inland Adventure” outing to Moosehead Lake July 9.

GPS training offered
      FARMINGTON -- GPS Training will be held Tuesday, Aug. 17, from 8 a.m. to noon at the USDA Service Center on Park Street. This class will teach participants to expand their GPS skills and avoid expensive, time consuming and risky mistakes. Students will get some hands-on field instruction outside.

      RANGELEY — With 190 points, Jerry Gingras of Bear Country Power Sports in Errol, N.H., claimed first Over-all in the Rangeley Lakes Region Logging Museum’s Woodsmen’s Competition Saturday, July 24 at the Museum’s 30th anniversary logging festival.
