(Contributed photo) MADRID — Floyd and Evelyn Webber Norton were guests of honor at a party in observance of their 60th anniversary at their camp on Beal Pond recently. The affair was given by their children, Gerry and his wife, Jan, of Phillips; Kevin and his wife, Roberta, of Madrid; and Deronda and her husband, John Duchesne, of Sebago.

The Nortons married June 25, 1950 at the Reed’s Mill Free Baptist Church in Madrid. Since that time, they have resided in West Peru, Madrid and Kingfield, where they have lived for the past 50 years.

Floyd was a lumberman for most of his life, and Evelyn’s career was in insurance for 40 years. For 18 years, they also owned and operated Echo Valley Lodge in Phillips where Floyd also served as a guide, a capacity he continues to fill even now that their son, Gerry, owns the lodge.

The Nortons spend their winters in Florida where Floyd enjoys playing golf, and Evelyn quilts and serves on several committees in their Fort Dade mobile home park.

The Nortons have six grandchildren: Jeremy and his wife, Leslie Norton, of North New Portland; Christopher Norton of Phillips; Timothy and his wife, Angela Norton, of Kingfield; Casandra Perez of Colorado; and Katrina and Raymond Duchesne of Sebago. The couple also has one great-granddaughter, Sage Norton of North New Portland; they are expecting two more great-grandchildren.

The Nortons say they feel very fortunate to live in a nice small town where people are very friendly and the town has pride in keeping it a nice clean picturesque area.
