World Class Frisbee show planned
Freestyle Frisbee Champion Todd Brodeur will host a Frisbee show and playshop Aug. 12 at the Rangeley Public Library.
RANGELEY — The Rangeley Public Library recently announced that two-time Freestyle Frisbee Champion Todd Brodeur will host a trick Frisbee show and interactive playshop at the library Aug. 12 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. If the weather is not good on that day, the show will take place at the Rangeley Lakes Regional School on Mendolia Road.
Brodeur’s high energy 30- to 45-minute Frisbee show will, according to organizers, captivate students by demonstrating basic Frisbee tricks, catches and combinations. He shows a number of many rare and unique Frisbees and shares stories and messages. The program also includes a brief science lesson on the aerodynamics of Frisbees and a bit of history about tossing circular objects.
The show will be followed by a Playshop, a fun handson activity that gives participants a unique learning experience. It starts with balancing and stretching and leads to many tricks and catches that can be done with a Frisbee.
Brodeur lives in Massachusetts and has been playing Frisbee since he was a child. He’s been seriously involved in all aspects of the sport for over 30 years. He started out tossing Frisbees with friends and family in the backyard and progressed to playing long toss in a large open field with friends.
In 1981 Brodeur’s uncle brought him to his first Frisbee tournament in Philadelphia, where he saw the best freestyle players in the world compete. That was a turning point for him.
He started competing in 1983. After winning his first Massachusetts state tournament in 1989, Brodeur continued competing and has won over 40 state and regional titles. The Freestyle World Championships were held in Italy in 2004, and with two great partners, Paul Kenny and Larry Imperiale, Brodeur won his first World title in the co-op division and then again in Berlin, Germany in 2006.
