RANGELEY — Michael Arnowitt is one of the most creative and imaginative pianists in today’s classical music world and his classical piano program will be held Aug. 19, at 7 p.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd on Main Street.

Arnowitt, who lives in Vermont, is best known for the beauty, clarity and elegance of his musical ideas, for his abilities to find new articulations and colors from the piano, for his talents in constructing innovative and thought-provoking programs, and for his natural and warm on-stage manner with audiences of all ages.

His program will feature masterworks by many of the pianist’s favorite composers. The major pieces on the concert are Bach’s Partita no. 3 in A minor, Beethoven’s Sonata no. 27 in E minor, op. 90, and Robert Schumann’s evocative “Scenes from Childhood,” an adult look back on what Schumann called “the sunshine of childhood,” highlighted by the famous “Traumerei” (Dreaming).

Also on the program are four Chopin études including the shimmering “Aeolian Harp” and mesmeric “Double Thirds,” three of the fantastically imaginative piano études by György Ligeti including “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” and a piano arrangement of the slow movement to Brahms’ Fourth Symphony, one of the composer’s most beautiful and satisfying creations.

Tickets ($15) are available at the Rangeley Lakes Chamber of Commerce 864-5364 and at the door.
