‘Fall Family Fun on the Land’ offered
TEMPLE — The public is invited to a morning of earth-based story, craft and song to celebrate fall-time gifts from the land at Kineowatha Park in Wilton Saturday, Sept. 18, from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
The event will start with making corn husk dolls to take home. Then, attendees will watch the ancient art of friction fire at work as organizers make a camp fire by rubbing sticks together. The morning will end with hot apple cider, warmed over the fire, as those attending learn the Apple Song and remember all the gifts of the season.
The event will be conducted by Chris and Ashirah Knapp, outdoor educators and avid practitioners of sustainable living who have taught and guided for the past 10 years with Kroka Expeditions, the Vermont Semester Program, and Earthways. In 2008 they founded Koviashuvik Local Living School in Temple where they offer classes in traditional skills, folk arts and modernday sustainable living.
Visit them at their Web site to find out more: www.koviashuvik.com.
This event is being sponsored by Western Maine Audubon, and is geared toward children ages 6 to 12. Being a family event, one responsible adult is required to attend with each child or small group of children. There will be a fee of $10 per child, with a family rate of $20 if there are two or more children in the family attending.
Pre-registration is required, as the group size will be limited. Call 778-6285 to register.
