KINGFIELD — The Stadler Gallery at 225 Main Street will bring to an end its summer series of exhibitions with works by Joel LeVasseur of Damariscotta and George Paton of Bowdoinham. The exhibitions will be on view Aug. 28 through Sept. 17 daily from noon to 4 p.m. and by appointment.
There will be a reception for the artists Saturday, Aug. 28, from 2 to 4 p.m.
“Earth: the Ruined Garden” is the title LeVasseur gave his show. Being an environmentalist, LeVasseur explores the landscape as he walks through Maine’s state parks and along its beaches collecting consumer waste and discarded industrial debris.
The found objects are used as templates for gelatin printmaking. According to LeVasseur, through subtle symbolism of the scars across a tortured landscape, he focuses primarily on primordial origins, void and chaos, all of which he interprets as fragments of a “vanishing” earth.
Aside from gelatin monoprints, LeVasseur will exhibit book arts, paintings and various installations.
Throughout his photographic pursuits, Paton has been primarily attracted to and focused on images that display a strong compositional drive, rather than those where the subject matter is the driving force.
Thus, according to Paton, at the core of each piece of work one finds strong visual dynamics which excite the eye and stimulate the view. Many of his images are found in nature which gave this show the title “Nature’s Designs.”
Paton works predominantly with large scale equipment which he feels is necessary to produce the level of image quality he demands.
