Phillips Old Home Days Flower Show

PHILLIPS — The Annual Phillips Old Home Days Flower Show was presented at the Phillips Public Library last Saturday and Sunday. Winners were named in eight design classes, two youth classes, and five horticultural classes.

Class names were in keeping with the 52nd Annual Old Home Days Theme, “Good Times, Good Friends, and Good...”

In the first design class, Good Memories, ribbon winners were Patti Knapp, Sherry Gordon, and Susan Mecham, first, second and third, respectively. In Good Work, first place winner was Kristy Daily. Her design of fresh flowers in a handyman’s tool belt also won the Peoples’ Choice Award, selected by visitors to the show throughout the weekend who voted for their one favorite design.

Theda Fairbanks earned a third place ribbon for her collection of hydrangea in Good Sports. Dorothy Haggan took first place and the Judges’ Choice prize in Good Gravy! Jenna Hardy was second. In Good and Wild, blue ribbon winner was Paula Roy Kane. Dorothy Haggan took the red ribbon.

The youth classes were divided by age. In the age 4 to 8 class, Good Gardening, Madison White was first and Celeste Reid, second. For youth ages 9 to 13, ribbons went to Elora McCuddy, Conor Hill, Thomas Leacu, first, second and third. Jenna Hardy, Senna Reid, and Allison Leacu were awarded honorable mention ribbons.

Blue ribbons in horticulture went to Haley Bate’s purple glad, Dorothy Haggan’s marigold, Elora McCuddy’s red rose, and Sherry Gordon’s vegetable collection. Red ribbons were earned by Taren Bate’s peach glad, Dot Haggan’s zinnia, Susan Mecham’s houseplant, and Dorothy Haggan’s vegetable collection. Hunter Bate’s yellow glad won a third place ribbon, as did Theda Fairbanks’ snapdragon and her oxalis.

This year’s flower show committee was Dorothy Haggan, Sherry Gordon, Johanna Roy, and Paula Roy Kane.

Entries that were not picked up by 4:30 p.m. Saturday were left in the library. These may be picked up anytime during regular library hours starting Wednesday.
