Stratton summer camp says thank you
The staff at the Stratton/Eustis Summer Program would like to thank everyone for a great summer of fun and activities at our camp this summer.
We had 84 children pass through our camp during the eight-week program. The kids participated in swim lessons, traveled to several state parks, had overnight camping trips, took a trip to the ocean, hiked Burnt Mt., walked the Narrow Gauge Trail, spent a day at the CVOA shooting range, made crafts, traveled to the Bangor Children’s Museum, took an outdoor survival and fire safety course, canoed Rangeley Lakes, met Smokey the Bear, saw a movie and professional Frisbee show, got soaked by the fire trucks, had a week long sports camp and went white water rafting, to name a few events.
I would like to thank my staff: Hilarie, Hannah, Jill, Amber, Rose, Nate, Jamey, Richie and Millie who do a fantastic job taking care of the children each day. They make coming to camp fun for the kids every day. A special thank you to Linda Lowell who volunteered her time to make stepping stones and tie-dye t-shirts with the kids.
Also thanks to our CVA bus drivers, Martin and Kathi Gray and Steve Sitz and to Sugarloaf Mountain for donating the gas necessary to make these trips possible. Thanks to Rick Rodgers from Inland Fisheries for all his time he gives to the kids teaching safety courses, Barry London for his yearly canoeing trips and Neal Trask and his crew for the use of the CVOA Range each year. Special thanks to the Stratton/Eustis fire department and the girls at the town office.
Lastly, I’d like to thank four local businesses/clubs who came forward at the last minute to help support some of the funding for an overnight white water rafting trip. These are: Flagstaff Area ATV Club, Stratton/Eustis Lions Club, Mt. Bigelow Lodge #202 and Boralex Stratton Energy. They did not hesitate to donate and made this trip possible for 25 children and staff. They are always willing to help us out including offering ATV rides and Pontoon boat rides.
I look forward to next year and would like to remind everyone that our program is offered to residents free of charge and to all non-residents (no matter where you live) for $50 per week.
Thanks to Kim Kearing who donated her time to write grants for our program so that we could continue with an eight-week program.
