1941-2010 — Everyone’s experience at Sugarloaf was made a little better because of her presence

WEARE, N.H. — Lynn Chase, 69, a longtime resident of Carrabassett Valley, passed away Aug. 19, 2010 after a long struggle with Emphysema and COPD. She was supported and loved through the ebbing time of her life by her children; Michelle (Chase) and Frank Fassett of Boothbay Harbor, Cheri (Chase) and Mark Erskine of Weare, N.H., Eric Chase of Freeport, and her adored grandchildren Haize Fassett, Carson Fassett, Hannah Erskine and Hailey Erskine.

Lynn’s life journey began in Detroit, Mich. March 31, 1941, as the daughter of Lee and Helene (Wickstrom) Ostrom. She was raised along with her brother, John Ostrom, who eventually moved to Carrabassett Valley and was welcomed and cared for by the Chase family. She had a memorable childhood with a loving family and shared many special childhood memories with her cherished cousin, Barbara Robinson. She graduated from Denby High School in Edwin Michigan in 1959. Lynn brought her Swedish heritage to Maine and subsequently her children and friends “In the Valley” took pleasure in many of the cherished Swedish traditions –-particularly at Christmas time.

In 1972 Lynn moved to Carrabassett Valley with her family and soon thereafter became a dedicated manager of the Sugarloaf Mountain Condominium Rental Program and eventually managed all rental accommodations for the Sugarloaf Mountain Hotel. She enjoyed her position and never wavered from her commitment to Sugarloaf skiers, Sugarloaf Real Estate property owners or the Sugarloaf staff in general. Lynn enjoyed her position at Sugarloaf

which gave her the opportunity to know well all residents and visitors of Sugarloaf. Her efforts and giving nature endeared her to all those connected to Sugarloaf Mountain and the entire Carrabassett Valley area. Everyone’s experience at Sugarloaf was made a little better because of Lynn’s presence.

Lynn was predeceased by her mother, Helene (Wickstrom) Ostrom; her father, Lee Ostrom; and her brother, John Ostrom; and cousin, Robert (Bob) Robinson.

She leaves behind her children, Michelle, Cheri and Eric; her grandchildren, Hannah, Haize, Hailey and Carson; her cousin, Barbara Robinson; and nieces, Debbie Dellaire, Vicki Coburn and their families will live with fondest memories left to them from many years of knowing and loving Lynn.
