Recreational soccer begins

SALEM — The Western Maine Youth Soccer Association recently announced its fall recreational soccer program 2010 details. Due to the Columbus Day weekend, there will be no games Oct. 10.

The Kindergarten Prep Program will be held Sundays, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Sept. 12 to Oct. 17 at Mt. Abram High School. The kindergarten program focuses on fun and beginning soccer skills, and includes small group activities and fun games.

The Rec Programs for grades 1 through 6 will be held Sundays, Sept. 12 to Oct. 17. Sunday, Oct. 24 will be the playoffs and Monday, Oct. 25 the championship games —“under the lights.” Division 1, grades 1 to 3 will play 12:30 to 2 p.m., and division 2, grades 4 to 6 will play 2:15 to 3:30 p.m.

All sessions will be held at Mt Abram High School.

The fees pay for liability insurance and equipment for the program.

Family pricing is $25 each for the first player, $20 for the second, and $15 for third and more player(s) $15.

Registrations are due by Sept. 10; there will be a $5 late charge after that date.

Players must have appropriate athletic shoes; cleats are not required. Shin guards are recommended at for the Rec Programs, but are not required.

Reversible WMYSA jerseys are available for purchase at our cost ($18) but are NOT required. Shirts from previous seasons may be used again.

Players without jerseys will be provided “pinnies” for the games.
