NEW PORTLAND — Twenty paintings by eight New Portland artists are now on display at the New Portland Public Library, comprising a variety of subject and style.
Works by Wahleyah Black, Stephanie Campbell, Edie Curtis, Joy Cross, Paula Anderson, Ana Rothschild, Rigdon Reese and Nora West have been drawing praise. At the reception for the artists Sunday, Aug. 29, the most frequently heard remark was, “I didn’t know that we had such talent in this town!”
This show will continue until the end of September. The public is encouraged to stop in. The library’s hours are Monday, Wednesday and Thursdays from 4 to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.
In 2005, when the New Portland Community Library members looked at options for a new and larger space, the top design choice included lots of natural light and wall space to show art.
And there have been several shows over the past few years, including work by Jan Piribec (collage), Barbara Sullivan (fresco), Jim Provenzano (installation), Ellen Roberts (fiber arts), Geoffrey Shovelton (illustrations and cartoons) and Dona Seegers (recycled paper sculptures).
