Talk covers the Fly Rod Crosby Trail
FARMINGTON — Ben Godsoe from Madrid Township will introduce attendees to Fly Rod Crosby and the trail that bears her name at 7 p.m. in C23 in the Roberts Learning Center, University of Maine at Farmington.
Godsoe is now working on an Americorp grant and has spearheaded the development of the new hiking trail in Franklin County: The Fly Rod Crosby Trail.
Cornelia (Flyrod) Crosby, who famously said, “I would rather fish any day than go to heaven,” was the first registered Maine guide. She is also said to be the only person to have shot a caribou in Maine. Six feet tall, imposing in stature, deed and demeanor, she was also the first to tout Maine’s recreational charms and potential.
The trail, which runs from Strong to Oquossoc along the Sandy River valley, seeks to tie together her old stomping grounds as well as to highlight the history, culture, and sights of this part of Maine.
