Larry Dunphy will be an effective representative
We live in polarizing times. Political pundits boost ratings by inciting angry emotions and paint everything black-and-white with a broad brush. A line has been drawn in the sand and the people are divided –-digging in their heels on one side of that line or the other. While we have a great deal at stake and tough, serious work needs to be done, politicians have dug in too. Partisanship has resulted in a damaging national stall.
These times call for Representatives who will talk and work across the aisle to solve problems in order to better the lives of their constituents and state. Larry Dunphy is a person who will do that.
I have known Larry for 30+ years. He takes seriously the responsibilities of citizenship, including community service. Larry knows the importance of spending time with young people. He was a wonderful role model and teacher for my son and other young boys in our community through Scouting and recreational programs. He has voluntarily worked many weekends with students chaperoning ski trips and coached our district ski team. While his own children were in school, he was involved with both school and after-school activities along with his wife, Cindy.
How someone spends their free time reveals a lot about a person. On beautiful evenings we often see Larry fly over our house, cruising up and down the Carrabassett River and town in his para-ski. A person who does this sort exhilarating thing must be willing to take personal risks, but at the same time be confident in their own skill and ability to complete the flight. The rewards include a unique view of community and personal reflective time that no doubt brought him to the decision to serve his community in a new way. In talking with him about his run for office I feel the same level of confidence in his skill and ability to do what needs to be done.
Larry is a respected member of our community. I have seen and heard him speak at school board, planning board, and town meetings many times. He knows how to directly address issues in a few short words. Any time I talk with him I feel he values and respects my opinion. When he disagrees with me he is very thorough and clear in his reasoning. I am confident he will know which issues require action from Augusta, and which ones do not. I trust his ability to make sound choices and I am confident he will be an effective representative. He is a person of outstanding character who will serve this district well.
Sincerely,
