Roaine Hazel Hatch

1924-2010 — She will be remembered for her great sense of humor and sharing smile

CHESTERVILLE — Roaine Hazel Hatch, 85, formerly of Wilton, died early Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 31, 2010, at her son’s home in Chesterville where she had resided for the past five years.

She was born in Wilton, Dec. 3, 1924, a daughter of William B. and Martha (Packard) Frost and received her education in Wilton schools. In 1941, she married John T. Clemens Jr. and they had two children, Harland and Hazel. They later divorced. On March 9, 1946, she married Ira L. “Bug” Hatch Sr. They made their home on Bennett Street in Dryden for many years. He died Dec. 5, 2004.

Mrs. Hatch worked at the Wilton Woolen Mill, Farmington Shoe, Livermore Shoe, Forster Manufacturing, and retired from GH Bass Shoe Company. She enjoyed playing beano, cards, especially 63, cribbage, and phase 10, and gambling, especially scratch tickets. She attended weight watchers, loved going to fairs, camping, traveling, fishing as well as attending stock car races. Roaine was especially fond of traveling to the Moosehead region where she fished and explored many trails and roads with her family. She will be remembered for also having a great sense of humor and sharing a smile.

She is survived by her sons, Harland Clemens and his wife, Nancy, of Chesterville, Lester Hatch and his wife, Helen, of Scarborough, William “Bill” Hatch Sr. and his wife, Carol, of Wilton, and Alan Hatch Sr. and his wife, Brenda, of Farmington; daughters, Hazel Flagg and her husband, Lincoln, of Wilton, Lillian Messier of Wilton, and Martha Andrews and her husband, Fred, of North New Portland; 26 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Cecil and Royce; a sister, M. Chrystal Welch, who died Aug. 29, 2010; and a great-grandson, Dwight Flagg.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2010 at the Wiles Remembrance Center in Wilton. Committal prayers will be on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Lakeview Cemetery in Wilton.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be given in Roaine’s memory to the family, c/o Wiles Remembrance Center, PO Box 827, Wilton, Maine 04294.

The family would like to thank Androsgoggin Home Health Care and Hospice, Dr. Gooch, Andrea, Angela and Carol for their care and concern for Roanie in her final days.
