New club busy working on trails
CARRABASSETT VALLEY — The local chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association has enjoyed a flurry of activity surrounding its recent formation.
Saturday, Aug. 21 members organized a trail work day with Maine Huts & Trails and, according to a spokesperson, it was a smashing success. The Huts’ trail from Houston Brook Road to the Carriage Road is open, “buff and looking great!”
Thirty-four people participated making quick work of the many projects.
Members urge those who haven’t been out there to ride or walk the trial, to do so and check out what a group of dedicated, hard working volunteers can do in a day.
The next trail work day is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 12 at the Carrabassett Outdoor Center. Volunteers will meet in the Outdoor Center parking lot at 8 a.m. Email club secretary Kimberly Truskowski at loaflady@tdstelme.net to RSVP for the club’s first work day at the Outdoor Center. It is important the club knows who is attending so it can properly plan the work.
Volunteers can expect a six-hour work day, a brief club meeting, a group ride, a light BBQ and Geary’s Summer Ale at the Outdoor Center.
Volunteers should bring gloves, water, lunch, a rake (and if you have one; a grub axe, hoe, shovel, bucket with handle or wheel borrow). They are urged to watch the weather and dress appropriately and remember their bike and gear.
