Nooks for loan at Mt. Abram
SALEM — The Mt. Abram High School library recently purchased 10 Nooks (e-readers similar to Kindles), thanks to a grant from the Oak Grove.
The books will be on loan for two-week periods following February vacation with no immediate renewal.
Some of the Nooks will have popular series of books, while others will have more individual titles available on them.
Lori Littlefield, school librarian, is enthusiastic about the opportunities this will present, giving students a glimpse into e-books. Some of the students can read a book a day, so they’ll go through 10 to 14 when they have them on loan. Others will only read one or two. Not all students have access to this technology at home, so she’s hoping this will give all students an opportunity to get hands-on experience with e-readers.
This should inspire students to start talking about Nooks and Kindles. They’re becoming more affordable, she said, so they are becoming more available.
One sets have about 50 selections each. The goal is to have 100 on each, but she wants student input before putting all the books on the Nooks.
