Pinewood Derby winners’ circle

Pictured are the winners of Cub Scout Pack 500’s recent Pinewood Derby: (left to right): Dalton Thurlow, first place; Nathaniel Smith, third place; Damien Thurlow, second place. The final young man is Nolan Dyer who won “Best in Show” for his car’s appearance. These boys will be participating in Kennebec Valley District’s Pinewood Derby with other winning Cub Scouts from throughout the district on April 14. The Pinewood Derby is a yearly event in which Scouts, with the assistance of parents, create a race car using a kit purchased from the Pine Tree Council. The cars must weigh less than five ounces, and be of a certain length and height. Cars are gravity propelled and end at a computerized lane brain. Each Scout participates in three qualifying races. The final three racers compete for the three top positions.
