‘Mac’ Sears J. Maceda

1956-2015 — He was a strong, quiet man who cared for all around him

PHILLIPS — Sears Joseph Maceda, 84, our father and friend “Mac,” passed away the 21st day of August, 2015 at home in Phillips, surrounded by loved ones.

He was born April 2, 1931 in Seekonk, Mass., the son of Joseph and Alice (Andrews) Maceda. He served and protected his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Mac was a strong, quiet man who cared for all around him, be it his sons and daughter or a stray soul about on a cold New Years Eve. He was there to help. Anyone could depend on him. With a simple call or question, he was there to fix what was broken. Mac spent endless days throughout his entire life tinkering in the garage or making sure the boys’ worksites were running smoothly. He could fix anything, it was his passion. He loved his home and property and could be found any day riding around, checking the property, or cutting the lawn, which seemed to get larger every year. He liked to see things grow.

Mac was a man that loved to learn. Always busy and ready to tackle the next project. He not only watched over his family but he was there to help with anything and everything. Most importantly, he taught us how to fix problems and breakdowns in our lives, so now we can go on knowing we can think through, fix up and go on.

He is survived by his three children, Candace Dunham and husband, Christopher, Michael Maceda and wife, Dawn and Nathan Maceda; his beloved grandchildren, Maxell, Benjamin, Merrill, Jeremy and the light of his life Carolyne and Mitchell; his sisters, Dorothy and Eleanor; his friends, Barbara, Steve, Sandra and the many friends that meant so much to him both in Phillips and home in Massachusetts.

Donations in Mac’s memory may be made to the Fisher House, 1400 VFW Parkway, West

Roxbury, MA 02132

A gathering with friends and relatives will take place in the fall on Quill Hill in Rangeley and will be announced at a later date.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Dan & Scott’s Cremation & Funeral Service in Phillips.
