Valley budget considerations begin

By Dee Menear Irregular Staff Writer

CARRABASSETT VALLEY — When the Board of Selectmen last met, it was for a review of the budget and items that could potentially impact upcoming budget planning. Of note was the proposed new mountain fire station. Once a design concept is drawn, and a project budget prepared, it will need to be submitted to the Fire Marshal’s office and Sugarloaf for approval. The plan is to complete a basic concept plan for Sugarloaf to review in order to move forward with a potential land/lease swap.

Currently, the mountain fire station is housed in two town-owned bays at the Sugarloaf Maintenance garage. The plan is for the town to exchange ownership of the two bays for a lease of a two-acre parcel off Access Road.

Following an Executive Session, selectmen voted in favor of recommending 2.5 percent raise for town employees. The board also voted in favor of recommending increasing the town manager’s vehicle allowance by $2,000.

These recommendations will be reviewed by the Budget Committee dur- ing its annual meeting Tuesday, Jan. 30. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. If needed, the committee will meet Thursday, Feb. 1 to complete budget work.

The annual town meeting will be held Wednesday, March 14 at 7 p.m. at the Outdoor Center. Residents will also elect two Selectmen, two School Committee members, and two Sanitary District officers —all 3-year terms. Nomination papers for these elected positions are available at the Town Office and are due back Monday, Jan. 29 by 4 p.m.
