MADISON — The Crown Vics, a favorite band among music-savy Sugarloafers, will present a Valentine’s Dance Party at Somerset Abbey Saturday, Feb. 10. The band hails from the Bar Harbor area but regularly performs at local venues — most recently at New Year’s Eve bash at The Widowmaker.

“We’ve been hammering at this for four years now,” said drummer Steve Peer. “We are five pretty different people coming from different corners of the universe but we all have the same vision: to be a hard-hitting, full-tilt, dance band and an interactive entertainment machine.”

The band’s newly released album, “Hell Yeah!” is packed with mischievously fun songs and uniquely breaks traditional rock and roll genre boundaries. Hell Yeah! is a remarkably diverse collection of carefully-crafted, concise, multi-genre songs. In addition to rockabilly, The Crown Vics explore world music, the Broadway musical, vintage country, comedy, vintage early rock and dance music and even techno.

“Hell Yeah! is a crafty, unflaggingly ambitious, humorous, post-punk, genre-bending collection of hits, if we do say so ourselves,” said Peer. The entire album was recorded in one long weekend at 430 Bayside, a venue in Ellsworth which has been hosting a series of house concerts for more than a decade. The Crown Vics are: Drew Myers, vocals; Jennifer Myers, vocals; Frank Schwartz, guitars; Gordon Fellis, bass; and Peer, drums and vocals. The entire band contributed to writing the album’s 14 songs.

Somerset Abbey, located at 98 Main Street, is a music, wedding and function hall located in what once was a church. The historic, 125-year old building is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Madison. Tickets for the Valentine’s themed dance are $18 in advance and $20 at the door. Included in admission are a chocolate fountain and free munchies. Themed food options and drink specials will be offered at the 21 and over show.
