S-turns reduced to one-way traffic

CARRABASSETT VALLEY — A Maine Department of Transportation riverbank stabilization project will reduce Route 27 traffic to one lane for several weeks, said Town Manager Dave Cota.

Beginning Wednesday, Feb. 7 until noon Friday, Feb. 16 traffic in a section of the so-called S-turns will be open to one-way traffic only. Normal traffic patterns will resume February Vacation week beginning noon Friday, Feb. 16. One-way traffic will resume Monday, Feb. 26 for approximately one week or until work is complete.

Cota said MaineDOT has hired a contractor to complete a major riverbank stabilization repair project, which needs to be completed before spring run-off. The repair work is necessary due to the late October flood, Cota explained.
