Ascendigo Autism Services seeks local adventure campers

CARRABASSETT VALLEY — Ascendigo Autism Services is working closely with Carrabassett Valley Academy and the Adaptive Outdoor Education Center to bring a one-of-a-kind residential adventure camp to the region. Ascendigo is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization based in the Roaring Fork Valley near Aspen, Col. The organization has provided opportunities for growth and independence for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder since 2004 through adventure, life enrichment and outreach.

Beginning Monday, July 16, Ascendigo will be providing an adventure camp for clients in the Carrabassett Valley area and will be utilizing the CVA residential facilities. There will be four week-long sessions offered — two geared towards adults and two geared towards youth.

“We still have space for kids for the weeks of July 29 and Aug 4. We’d love to get a couple of locals,” said Joseph Breiling, co-director of Ascendigo Adventures. Breiling noted there were scholarship opportunities available. Breiling said the residential camp is a better experience for all those involved but the program will accept day-campers, if necessary.

The camp is a residential, five-day summer adventure camp. Participants will experience activities such as rock wall climbing, water activities, and more. They will also be involved in the local communities.
