Rangeley chorus to ‘travel the world’

RANGELEY — Rangeley Friends of the Arts will present its final concert of the summer season Aug. 29 at 7 p.m., Wednesday evening at the Church of the Good Shepherd.

The Rangeley Community Chorus will take concertgoers on an adventure traveling through song to places throughout the U.S. and around the world.

From a river in the Czech Republic to the Big Apple (New York, New York), place names will be celebrated in music. An expressive, melodic song about the city of Innsbruck gives way to the foot tapping rhythms of California Dreamin’. From Rio de Janeiro (Girl from Ipanema) to the Country Roads of West Virginia, from the Yellow Rose of Texas to the banks of the Jordan river, and from surfing through Kokomo with the Little Old Lady From Pasadena while Surfin’ USA, the chorus will keep attendees entertained as they take off in a new direction with each song.

In addition to eight numbers by the entire chorus, there will be solos and small ensembles featured in such favorites as: Rt. 66, Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, and Istanbul, Not Constantinople.

The chorus is made up of 27 year-round and seasonal residents of the greater Rangeley area plus Carrabassett Valley. Membership in the chorus is free and open to all.

A ticket price of $10 will help defray the cost of music for future concerts. Tickets are available at the Rangeley Chamber of Commerce and at the door.
