Road closure unresolved





NEW PORTLAND — About 20 residents met Tuesday night, Sept. 21 to act on four articles at a special town meeting. Bertrand Dyer was elected as the moderator.An article considering whether the Greatworks Road should be discontinued as a town way was passed over, because the town was unable to clear up the issue of access to Lawrence Pope’s property via the Greatworks Road, town manager Andrea Reichert said.The town will work on resolving the issue, which will probably come before the voters again at the annual town meeting in March, Reichert said.Closure of the Reed Road for winter maintenance, which is about one tenth of a mile in length, was approved.The voters accepted minor changes to the Shoreland Zoning Ordinance.No action was taken at a Public Hearing following the special town meeting on a proposed Ordinance for the Recall of Elected Municipal Officers. This proposal will also come before the voters at the annual March town meeting.
